Message from the Headmaster

Welcome to our website and thank you for taking the time to consider all that Benedictine has to offer!   We are Virginia’s only Catholic, military, boys’ school with an enrollment of 278 students in grades 9-12.  As an Honor JROTC Unit of Distinction, qualified Cadets may be nominated to national service academies as well as for ROTC Scholarships.  After completing their course of studies at Benedictine, our students move on to attend many high-caliber academic institutions of higher learning.  We also are the nation's largest feeder school to Virginia Military Institute.

Benedictine is proud to offer a traditional college preparatory secondary education in an atmosphere that sustains our fundamental mission: To help our Cadets develop morally, academically, physically and spiritually so that they are ready to succeed as adults in college and in life.  Our excellent faculty consists of 38 dedicated educators, many of whom hold advanced degrees.  Benedictine has an average class size is 14.7 students and offers AP Courses in the following areas: Biology, English, Calculus AB / BC, Latin, Studio Art Drawing / Ceramics, US History, and Government.

As part of the spiritual formative component of our mission, Benedictine seeks to provide its students a rigorous, comprehensive education that respects and embraces Catholic teaching.  We do so at Benedictine while respecting other Christian traditions and persons of other faiths.

In forming the whole Cadet, our strong co-curricular programs in Military leadership and Athletics work hand in hand across the educational process to help the Benedictine Cadet reach new heights in serving the common good beyond himself.  All of these formative steps are structured to help the young man to strengthen his love for God and neighbor, enabling him to understand more deeply his own identity, to engage a proper love of self, and to comport himself in a manner that respects his personal duty to and responsibility for the world around him.

Thank you for considering Benedictine High School, and I hope you will visit us soon.
